Jesuits survived atomic blast

Father Hubert Schiffer, (1915 – March 27, 1982[1]) was one of eight German Jesuits who survived the nuclear bomb “Little Boy” dropped on Hiroshima. He was only eight blocks away from ground zero when the explosion occurred

“We believe that we survived because we were living the message of Fatima. We lived and prayed the rosary in that home.”


Hiroshima and Nagasaki were Catholic strongholds in Japan.  They targets were chosen to wipe out Catholicism in Japan.  It was part of a systematic destruction of Catholicism of the 20th century.
